2017-18 NBA Rookie Of The Year: The Case For Luke Kennard

As the summer league wrapped up – certain rookies really stood out – Lonzo Ball, Dennis Smith, Jayson Tatum, Donovan Mitchell, Markelle Fultz, you name it – this class is VERY deep. But, people seem to forget how good of a player Luke Kennard is – and his upcoming opportunity in Detroit.

Detroit has lost Kentavious Caldwell-Pope – who was probably their most talented scorer. So who will step up and jump in his place? Well, something tells me they drafted Luke Kennard 12th overall to do just that.

Let’s not forget, Luke Kennard was the most talented scorer in college basketball last season – and certainly was the best shooter in the draft. Kennard will be surrounded by Reggie Jackson, and Andre Drummond down low. he will compliment them well, because he can get to the rim and create, and shoot from the corner, off the pick and roll.

Not only will be plugged into a system that will benefit him as a scorer – but he will be able to compete for a playoff spot. Something that most of these rookies won’t be able to put on their resume is a playoff appearance. What if Kennard got to the playoffs and balled out against LeBron? or Boston in the first round? he would have an edge in that department.

I’m not saying Kennard is the favorite to win the ROY or anything – but things have been quiet with Kennard when discussing next year’s ROY. Don’t sleep on Kennard, he may shock the world.
